In the midst of today’s difficult economy, you might think that looking fashionable is out of the range of your budget. However, according to Project Runway’s Kevin Christiana, you can visit stores like Goodwill and the Salvation Army and find stylish clothes without stretching your bank account. Nonetheless, you do have to go about it in the proper way. Below are some tips for shopping in thrift stores.
First, don’t go shopping on a Monday because most of the stock gets cleaned out over the weekend. Thursday is the best day to begin shopping at thrift stores. Second, don’t put too much stock in the size that is on the tag. Second hand clothes tend to shrink over the years or designers may have changed their sizings so your frame of reference could be inaccurate. Third, a quick way to know if jeans will fit you is that you should be able to wrap the waist around your neck and the ends should touch. Also, if you can’t fit the length of your fist to your elbow inside the waistband, the jeans are too small. Fourth, when you find a gown at a thrift store you can feel secure in knowing that you probably won’t go to a party and see anyone else wearing the same dress. In addition, there’s a good chance that the gown wasn’t worn very much before it was taken to the thrift store.
